- There were a few mistakes you made in your pronunciations Sir... First off as BoNi already said, it is pronounced PIEROGI which is both the singular AND plural of the word; second the soup is BARSZ not BORSZ... the first one is Polish, the second one is Russian, and if you look at the package you will see it is spelled with an A not an O. Also the word for the money is pronounced with a bit longer o like in the English word boat, though not quite that long, and the y is more of a short i like in the English word "it". Finally, and here is the BIG one... the city is not pronounced with a short u like in the word "up" it is like a muted oo like in the English word toot...so, it would be spelled LUBLIN, but to an American or possibly even a Brit, it would be PRONOUNCED, (sound like), almost like LOOBLIN.
